Lake Superior is the largest lake in the Western Hemisphere. It's width is 350 miles from east to west and it stretches more than 120 miles from north to south. Its depth at the deepest point is about 1300 feet. Lake Superior has a strong influence on the climate of the areas surrounding its shores. In the winter breezes from its waters warm the Northshore. Daytime breezes in the summer come from off the lake, while at night the breezes return from the land to Superior's waters. When warm and cold air meet summer fogs and winter snows are often the result.
